Research on the internship experience shows that even though the field experience is considered the single most powerful component of teacher preparation, the clinical experience varies greatly across programs and is often disconnected to the coursework in the teacher preparation programs (Wilson, 2002). We believe this extensive internship coupled with pedagogical courses in the context of a professional learning community focused on STEM education, will produce qualified, capable new teachers who are committed to enhancing K-12 STEM education.
